Ear Piercing For Children (& Adults), Aldershot

Is It End Of Term Already?

For the whole month of July I have an end of term promotion for the kids. The children will get to choose a free pair of fashion studs worth £5 with their ear piercing service.

If you would like to read more about why I believe this method to be the absolute best method of ear piercing then please read my blog: Ear Piercing For Children: Gun Versus Needle

By booking an ear piercing service you are essentially putting your lovely soft unadulterated ears into the hands of a stranger who is going to create a hole in those ears. Even more important, if you are bringing your child for ear piercing you want to be reassured that the person is going to look after your little one and make them feel as comfortable as possible when they create those holes in their little soft ears. Ah bless!

I get it. You want to know that that stranger is up to the task, knows what they are doing, has been doing it a long time, is gentle, safe and above all hygienic.

You may be a teenager or adult wanting your first, second or third piercing. Or a cartilage piercing (the flat outer corner of the ear) or an auricle piercing (that valley that runs from lobe up to the cartilage) but don't want to go to an accessory shop catering for kids only.

Or you may be a parent who has a girl or boy wanting to have their ears pierced at the end of term but doesn't want to take your nervous child to sit in the high street window of a shop or tattoo parlour.

Well standby, you are in the right place. Hi I’m Ema. I am fully qualified, insured and licensed to pierce ear lobes and cartilage here at my home beauty salon in Aldershot, Hampshire. I have pierced hundreds of ears, mainly children. Plus I was an Ear Piercing Trainer for Caflon, the British manufacturer of ear piercing studs and equipment for 4 years.

I can pierce anyone over the age of 6 months but I choose to have a minimum age of 6 years. Why? Because from this age, children are generally old enough to understand the implications of not looking after their ears properly and much more sensible to the idea that the short, sharp procedure is over and done with quickly and any discomfort is short lived.

What Happens During The Ear Piercing Procedure?

First and foremost I have to check that we can go ahead with the treatment and there are no conditions which means the recipient is prone to infection or slow to heal from any potential infections, injuries or obstructions. It's boring but vitally important.

I'm afraid I cannot carry out the treatment if the recipient has any of the following:

  • HIV or Aids

  • Circulation disorders

  • High or low blood pressure

  • History of thrombosis/ embolism

  • Pregnancy

  • Dysfunctions of the nervous system

  • Bruising or swelling on the area

  • Scar or keloid scar tissue on the area

  • Warts or moles

  • Cuts, abrasions or recent operations

  • Eczema or psoriasis (only if flared up)

  • Under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Caution must be taken or GP consent required if the recipient has any of the following:

  • Epilepsy

  • Diabetes

If you have any questions about any one of these conditions, or something not listed please get in contact and ask me

Once the declaration is signed, we can move on to the preparation and ear piercing procedure itself, yay:

  1. Long hair is clipped out the way to maintain hygiene.

  2. The area (lobe, auricle or cartilage) is cleaned with an antiseptic wipe saturated with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. This is necessary to kill any bacteria present on the skin. There is no need for numbing cream which can only be administered by a qualified nurse anyway.

  3. Once dry a sterile skin-safe pen is used to mark a dot where the piercing will go. This ensures the accuracy of the piercing. It also means the recipient can check they are happy with the position.

  4. The recipient chooses their studs. Ear piercing studs come in pairs, set in a cartridge, sealed and sterilised. There is a huge range to choose from. They are all hypoallergenic and will not tarnish, chip or fade.

  5. After the ear piercing gun is sanitised with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol, it is loaded with the sterile studs and single use sterile adaptors. These are the only items that touch the skin, hence why they are sterile.

  6. The ear piercing gun is placed in position, levelled and the piercing is actioned. In one split second the ear piercing stud is sharp enough to pierce the skin, insert the stud and secure the butterfly in one swift action. It literally is quicker than you can say ‘smile, you are having your ears pierced’.

  7. Aftercare solution is dropped onto the front and back of the piercing to cool it down.

  8. Redness and swelling is not uncommon for up to 48 hours after treatment.

  9. Aftercare should start that evening.

What Is The Aftercare Involved After Ear Piercing?

  1. The studs must stay in place for 6 weeks (for the ear lobe) or 12 weeks (for the flat cartilage)

  2. Avoid any unnecessary handling of the ears and studs.

  3. Hands must be washed thoroughly before touching the ears or studs.

  4. The aftercare solution should be dropped on to the front and back of the piercing twice a day (4 times for the cartilage).  Extra application should be given after swimming, sport or after the beach. Blot the ears dry.

  5. Then the front of the stud should be rotated half a turn forwards and backwards a few times to ensure that the hole remains circular and long hair hasn’t wrapped around the back of the stud.

  6. Swimming, hair and beauty treatments should be avoided for the first 24 hours after piercing.

  7. Keep hairspray away from the area and rinse the area after shampooing with clean water. Blot the ears dry.

  8. Each morning check the butterfly is in the outermost position. This ensures that the earrings remain loose during the healing period as tightness may lead to inflammation.

  9. During the first 6 months proceeding treatment, only replace the studs with lightweight hypoallergenic metal post-type earrings. Wear earrings continuously for this time period. Excessive changing of the earrings may lead to tissue damage at this early stage.

What Range of Studs Are Available For Ear Piercing?

All studs are hypoallergenic. There is a choice of surgical grade white stainless steel, 24K gold plate or Titanium. There are trace amounts of Nickel in the white stainless steel and 24K gold plate. If you suspect you have an allergy to Nickel then I advise you to choose the Titanium range.

There is a huge range of shapes, sizes, styles and gems in various birthstone colours. Here is just a small selection of styles to view. I have something for everyone in my collection.

What Is The Price For Ear Piercing?

The cost is £30 for one or two piercings. The studs come in pairs so if you have just one piercing you will be given the other stud as a spare. The price includes the studs and the aftercare solution.

NEW Silent Ear Piercing Method

Caflon Safetech System is my new silent ear piercing method for anyone aged 6 and above. It was designed for the softer solid 9K gold metal. I have 2 styles of studs available for this system, both are hypoallergenic and both contain a clear cubic zirconia stone, they are solid 9K gold or white stainless steel. This method is for anyone who may be aprehensive about the sound of the ear piercing or who are looking for a higher quality pair of studs. The price of the silent ear piercing system is £45, which includes the studs and aftercare solution.
